Our first showcase event gets people talking

The first MICRA showcase took place on 12th September at the University of Warwick, and featured an engaging and authoritative mix of speakers and topics.

The event was opened by Dr James Wilkie, CEO of University of Birmingham Enterprise and MICRA Project Director, and he introduced the theme of the day, Tacking the Industrial Strategy Grand Challenges.

We started with a thought-provoking session exploring the problem of how to support people to live longer, healthier independent lives, led by Dr James Brown, Director of Aston Research Centre for Healthy Ageing (ARCHA) and supported by Professor Hua Dong of Loughborough University, Dr Brendan Spillane of the University of Warwick and Dr James Amor of Warwick spin-out company Augmented Insights.

Our next session looked at how AI is changing society and was led by Professor Andy Pardoe, head of the new Warwick AI Incubator, and featuring panellists Dr Jose Miguel Rojas of the University of Leicester DriverLeics project, Dr Tomas Engelthaler of the University of Warwick, Dr Marcus Ong, CEO of Warwick Spin-out company Spectra Analytics and Jonathan Jackson, CEO of Loughborough spin-out company Previsico.

Last, but by no means least, the panel session on Circular Economy was led by Professor Gary Leek of the University of Birmingham. We heard from Professor David Healey from  Keele University Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) Project, Dr Filo Martina of Cranfield University Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing programme, Jonathan Wilson of Loughborough University ACCT project and Adrian Howarth of Warwick spin-out company Recycling Technologies.

We had great support from all of our partners and valuable participation from the audience in the Q&A and networking sessions. Look out for news of our next events and come along to meet us!
